memorial mania

Today is Memorial Day! No work! Yay American's who fought and are fighting for us!

We went hiking. It was absolutely perfect weather. Warm but a cool breeze. Bright and sunny. Basically awesome. We went to our favorite trail that we frequented the summers before Nathan's mission. Now we get to go again!
Well I am sure you are sad but that's all the details you get. Because details of hiking are boring.
Here's pictures!!!!!
Ps. this is us 3 years ago (left) and us today! There's not really a difference.. but... oh well.

some.. um.. things

-I don't understand how it possible to be sleeping as much as I do lately. Thursday night I got 9 hours of sleep. Friday I took a 2 hour nap after work and was still exhausted by 11. Slept another 9 hours Friday night and took another 2 hour nap on Saturday. In bed by midnight. 8 hours of sleep Saturday night and yet another 2 hour nap. Here it is 11pm Sunday night and I am tired enough to go to bed. How is this even possible?
-Nathan and I went to the Church History and Art Museum for last week's FHE. It was awesome.
-I can't believe I only have 4 days left of my first year fo teaching. I am in desperate need of a break,  but I am going to miss my kiddies like crazy. Plus, what the heck and I going to do with free time?! I don't even remember what that's like. I just.. I can't.
-Sometimes, commercials are so stupid that they make me mad. I should have gone into advertising because I would sell all the products!!
-We made peanut butter cookies and they were BOMMMB!!
-I really love our ward. They have been so nice and welcoming and it's nice to feel apart of a solid ward instead of floating around.
-Sharks kill an average of 4 people a year. I am more likely to be killed by a dog. Why am I so terrified of sharks?? Why do I have nightmares about them when I live in Utah and practically a bajillion miles away from the ocean?
-I really love Salt Lake. (During the spring and summer that is. You can check back in the winter to find out how much I also hate it). It's so gorgeous and historic and basically awesome. But sometimes it's super windy. I'll show you:
-Nathan told me I couldn't post that picture because he thinks he looks crazy. Oops.
-It's almost HONEYMOON TIME!!!
-I love America's Funniest Home Videos. Reruns are constantly on TV. I am obsessed. Plus it lead us to this video which we have watched an embarrassing amount of times.
-We take really ugly pictures. This isn't even half as bad as some of them. And yes, we mass texted them to friends and family members.
-I'm sorry I just showed you that. That's something you can't un-see.
-Best feeling in the world: It's Sunday night and there is NO WORK TOMORROW!!! YAY!!!!
-Why do car dealerships need a tent in order to have sales? It's always a tent event. Why not just have.. a sale?
-I read an article where Daniel Radcliffe said that he and Rupert Grint don't really talk anymore and it shattered my entire universe.
-Look how hot my husband is. Also, please note the location of the nail polish remover to our tooth brushes. We like our teeth to be extra clean.
-I want a puppy so bad it's not even funny. Too bad puppies aren't allowed in our tiny apartment. I gotta get something soon,or my baby fever might take over and I will snatch babies from people's grocery carts.
-There's a story on the news right now about a woman who believes she is a mermaid. Nice.
-I'm so excited for the Les Mis movie to come out that it's all I could think about during Sacrament Meeting today. Don't judge me.
-We had frozen yogurt for dinner last night. I don't even regret it. I am living my 10-year-old-self's dream.
-Nathan scratches my back every single night and will keep going until I fall asleep. He also sometimes cleans while I take naps. I seriously scored, big-time.

True Story: We are old

Yes it's true. I volunteered Nathan and I to be chaperones for the 8th grade field trip to Lagoon. I knew it would be exhausting, but I needed a day out of my classroom and I needed a day away from my hard behavior problem students. (There were grade requirements so my problem kids couldn't go). Plus, the only "chaperoning" was on the bus to and from Lagoon. Once we were there, the kids ran free and us teachers got to do whatever we wanted to. It was awesome.

We had a great day. We went on a bunch of rides and ate some snacks and hung out with some students. We met up for lunch with the rest of the teachers from my school and spent the rest of the day with them including an amazing teachers vs. students bumper car match. We won by the way.

Anyway, by the time we were on the bus ride home, Nathan and I were beat. Our backs hurt and our feat hurt and we were sleepy. Meanwhile the kids still screamed and sang and jumped around. We realized how old we're getting. It's pretty sad.

Anyways, here's a billion pictures you didn't ask to see!

Here's our bus load.

 Riding the cable cars.

I love this man.

In line for another roller coaster. I haven't been on a roller coaster in years and I was like a kid in a candy shop. I wanted to run around and ride every one.

Brady and Justin on the Rocket. Easily my favorite ride.

Kiddos!

Brady, Nathan, and I ran off to spend 97 dollars on ice cream. It was worth it.

Banana Split. Barf.

Why is my hair 97 different colors?

I've decided that riding rollercoasters with coworkers is awesome. But watching them is way funnier.

Best picture I have ever taken. They were a little uncomfortable with the shared seating.

Some of my favorite ladies.

Hard to see, but this was a little taste of our teacher vs student bumper car fiasco

Waiting for all the kiddies to make it out to the bus. This is where we realized how old we are.

Hermie Scarves

This is why I miss my baby sister:

So few others would understand that refrence and just how freaking hilarious it is. Also, few others enjoy discuss such hot, world topics such as this:

Love you baby sister. Is it August yet? Because I need you back in Utah.

pigeon murder

So.. remember how we have pigeons on our balcony? Basically, we had a bunch of boxes on our balcony when we left to get married and when we came back, some Pigeons had built a nest and laid 2 eggs behind one of the boxes. We felt bad since the eggs were already there and decided to just let the eggs hatch and the birds learn to fly and then we would get rid of the nest.

Sounds easy right? Well not so much. They have pooped everywhere and the pigeons coo outside our window REALLY loud durring the night and even though they only take up a tiny corner of the balcony, I just want my whole balcony to myself. Well the babies will be flying here in a few weeks and we are ready to clean off the nest. Problem is.. they started building a SECOND nest in a different corner. We immediately went out and destroyed the nest before they could lay any eggs in it. Sounds mean but we were avoiding a bigger problem, we thought.

The pigeons came back later and nest or no nest, she squatted down and started to lay an egg. We were freaking out because we didn't want to deal with more baby pigeons again but fate took care of things.

There are small openings at the bottom of our balcony. We watched in slow motion as she laid her egg.. it rolled down.. through the hole.. and down four stories.

We couldn't believe it! It's definitely very sad. I may have had extreme feelings of guilt. But it's kind of a blessing because if the egg hadn't fallen, there is no way I could have destroyed it myself and we would have even more pigeon poop and loud cooing all night.

Moral of the story: Don't let pigeons lay eggs on your porch. You will end up inadvertently killing their future babies.

Birthday Weekend!

Well Sportanfans, I am 24. Officially an old maid. It was a wonderful weekend! Yes I celebrate all weekend. So be prepared for a lot of pictures and pointless details.

Friday was my actual birthday. Being the responsible adult that I am, I spent the day at work. We have late start Fridays so the student don't come until 10 and the teachers have time to meet together. When I first got there, my team took me out to McDonald's to celebrate. I came back and my department had bagels and cake for me! I was incredibly lucky and incredibly full. My team and I also had in-n-out for lunch. I love my co-workers. Pretty sure they are trying to make me fat though.

My kiddies were extra nice to me. I got sung to in almost every period and got tons of little presents and cards and flowers and treats and of course, diet coke. I love my little guys. Can't believe I have to say goodbye to them in a couple weeks.

That evening, Nathan and I went to the temple. I can't think of a better place to spend my birthday.

Saturday was the day we decided we would celebrate. Nathan goes all out for birthdays and I love it. I got breakfast in bed, then came out to a completely decorated apartment and a pile of presents! Don't be jealous of how pretty I look in these pictures.

So let me just get a little bit mushy on ya here, because my husband is seriously the bomb. He listens to all the passing comments I make and puts so much thought into my gifts. A few months ago I mentioned how I really want matte grey nail polish and then just a few weeks ago I told him how OPI was my favorite nail polish brand. So what was my first present? Matte grey OPI nail polish! He got me yellow jeans from when we saw a girl who was wearing them and I said I liked them. He got me a soccer ball because I mentioned how I want to start playing again now that the weather is warm and a mini planter to hang on our balcony because I told him I wanted a yard to plan flowers in. Seriously, Nathan is so sweet and thoughtful. I could just smash his face in!!!!

Anyways, the big surprise came when I opened a small present with a little piece of paper that said we were heading to the Apple store to get my new iPhone 4s. I literally yelled and threw the paper at him. I was so freaking excited!! I've had the iPhone 3s forever and thanks to it's suicidal dive into a cup of water, it's worked like crap for a long time. This was the first picture I took with my new phone. I was a tiny bit excited.

We spent the afternoon at Liberty Park with some Del Taco and entertainment provided by some weirdos at the park dressed up and fighting with fake swords. The weather was perfect. Winter always makes me forget how amazing Spring and Summer in Utah are.

When we got home I got to plan my flowers that I picked out earlier in the day. I was so excited! I may have spilt fertilizer all over our balcony. I think it turned out pretty cute. I can't wait to have a real garden some day.

The night ended with some relaxing and movie watching and of course, cheesecake. It was a perfect day. I am a lucky, lucky lady. Also, I am 24.
