Our Love Story pt.6: The Fight and The Reconciliation

Part One
Part Two
Part Three
Part Four
Part Five

I made it back to Utah.
I moved in with some awesome roommates and started to get really excited to be living in Provo. I knew I needed to go see Nathan. I was excited and still mad, but one day Jenna and I deicded to head into Salt Lake to visit Haagen Dazs and to see Nathan.

He was so excited to see me that it made me even more mad. Why did he want to see me? He had blown me off the end of the summer and had dated someone else? I was annoyed.

For the next few weeks he texted often and wanted to get together. I was in Salt Lake twice a week but never went to see him after that first time. I could tell he was starting to get hurt feelings, but I was too proud. I had resolved not to date him!

Things came to a head on day at school when he finally texted me and asked me straight up about what was going on. After a texting conversation going no where, he called me and I left class to answer.

Now I don't remember exactly how the conversation went. But I do remember when I yelled. I was in the girls bathroom all alone and I yelled at him. He wanted to know why we weren't even going to try to date and I let him have it. All the pain built up from the end of the summer came spilling out and I told him we would never, ever date. I remember how sad he was and how apologetic he was. He told me about the broken phone. (Months later he even showed it to me, in case I was doubting haha). He explained that he didn't really "date" this other girl. Just took her out a few times then never called her again. He was mostly just trying to make me a little bit jealous by mentioning her. But it was kinda too late. I was stubborn and upset. We ended the phone call. I was really sad.

But that was the first time I learned of Nathan's forgiving nature. He would show me this many times throughout our relationship, but after a few days, we were friends again. And we were texting every day and talking on the phone most nights. He visited me a few times and I visited him too. We took a trip to temple square to see the lights at Christmas. I learned he was struggling with the church and hadn't been very much since he had moved out to Utah. We had good talks. We helped each other through hard things. He started going back to church. Right before Christmas he told me he loved me again. I told him I wasn't ready.

I dated quite a bit. He waited patiently. He tells me now that even though he wanted to murder every boy I dated or kissed, he knew I was just fooling around and when the time was right, I would come back to him.

The time was almost right.

  1. Kaitlin, Just wanted to tell you what a lovely story this is to read!! You're a fantastic writer, and I am so happy I stumbled across your blog. I've written about my "love story" with Shane on my blog as well - it's fun to re-live it. You've inspired me to get to writing another chapter!
