Sadie's first birthday

I promise this is the last "SADIE IS ONE!!!" post.

We decided to celebrate Sadie's birthday on the 26th since her birthday fell on a Sunday and that's hard to celebrate. We put her to bed and then snuck back in to decorate her room!

We also decorated the rest of the house.

True story: around 5am, I heard Sadie talking. She never wakes up in the night anymore. I rolled over and checked her monitor and, sure enough, she has discovered the steamers and balloons in her room, and was talking to them. It was cute, but I was also really tired. She talked for a good 40 minutes before falling back asleep.
Also, disclaimer. Just because a lot of people have asked me, "You didn't have a party?" Please, we totally had a party just the 3 of us, and it was awesome. But we decided not to do a huge party for a few reasons. First of all, I am not really a party thrower. I don't like the stress and I am a lot more low-key than that. Second, we don't have any immediate family in Utah (which are really the only people i'd want to invite), and we had a little party for her with my family last month. We do have a lot of extended family out here, but that would mean a huge party, which we wanted to steer clear of. Third, we wanted to be kinda "selfish" with her big day. That's what my sister-in-law says about her kids' birthdays and I love it. I didn't want to share her with a bunch of people. I wanted a day just the 3 of us. I also wanted the day to be all about Sadie. Let's be honest, a party for a 1-year-old isn't really for the baby. It's more for the parents and the guests. And there's nothing wrong with that! But I just am not a big party person, haha. I loved just doing whatever Sadie wanted to do and not having an pressure. Friends and a lot of people in our ward kept asking when her party was, and I started to feel like I was supposed to throw her some big event, but I am glad we didn't. There was no stress about that day. We did it all on Sadie's schedule and mood. It was perfect. Okay, now back to the blog post!

After her little 5am hang out with her decorations, she woke up around 8 and we went in singing happy birthday. She had the cutest sleepy eyes and was so excited! We threw the balloons in her crib and she was in heaven. She was biting them and throwing them and laughing.
In case you were like, "I wonder what fashionable outfit Kaitlin was wearing that morning." This was it.
We got bagels and ate while Sadie did her morning routine of pulling out every single toy she owns. Then we got ready and went to the zoo!!!! I was so excited for this because Sadie is so animal obsessed. And she didn't let us down. She pointed and squeaked and yelled and went, "Oooooooo!" The whole day. She especially loved the elephants and riding on the carousel.

This picture sucks, but I had to resurrect it from the dead. We were completely black because the person who took the picture focused the camera on the background. This was the best I could do.
Laughing at the robot dinosaurs they had everywhere.

It was so fun! But also freaking hot. So when we were done we headed to the air conditioned mall and got Chick-Fil-A.

Then Sadie took a nap and when she woke up, it was diner and present time! We got her so many toys, haha. We were just so excited! We didn't have her open them all at once though, because she got a little overwhelmed, so we opened some on Sunday and Monday as well. We had so many friends and family members send presents too! She was very spoiled.
Custom made rag dolls from Amanda and Brad. A Sadie doll and an angel Maddie doll. Yes, I cried.
She gots lots of balls, it's so hard to say that without sounded gross haha, because they are her favorite toy by far.

THEN. IT WAS CAKE TIME.
Sadie didn't disappoint. She dug right in! There's a short video here if you want to watch.

Then we had bath time. Then we ran out to Target. Because, we always do. Sadie loves baths and Target runs, so we just pretended those were also birthday celebrations.

It was such a perfect day. I had waited so long to celebrate a baby's birthday with presents and cake instead of sending balloons to heaven. I was seriously so excited, I could hardly sleep the night before. This little girl is perfect. And I am so glad she's mine.

  1. Deklan's favorite toy are balls too. And it's horrible to say. So when people ask, I say "A ball" so it sounds less awkward lol. I just need these two to meet though. It would be perfect. Such a happy birthday for such a sweet girl!
