Why my work is sometimes pretty cool

The Friday before Christmas was so much fun. Luckily we all know teaching is pretty impossible on that day. It was a late start day so we had a few hours before school for our staff party. We had an awesome breakfast, a gift exchange, and Brady wore this:

So seriously pretty awesome. I brought a One Direction calendar for the exchange. Everyone was envious. Maybe not though.

I tired to keep my kids busy during the day. My first period actually worked really hard. It was all pretty hard after that haha. There was just an excited spirit all throughout the school. At lunch the PTA fed us more good food and then 6th period began. 7th and 8th period were skipped that day. We spent the rest of the day in assemblies and school prize drawings. Our kids raised $10,000 for sub for Santa and they won some awesome incentives. Our principal had to dye her hair red and green, one VP had to shave his head into a mohawk, the second VP had to let the a student cut her hair, and lastly, they won a teacher talent show. Not everyone participated but for the closing act a few teachers and I danced to Gangam Style. Not a huge fan of the song but man the kids went nuts!! Screaming and jumping; it was hilarious.

For one act, a teacher played the song "We are Never Ever Getting Back Together" and invited kids up to sing. It's amazing how many 8th grade boys are not ashamed to love Taylor Swift.

It's a day like this that let's me enjoy the lighter side of teaching. Not stressing about meetings and paperwork and behaviors and curriculum; just enjoying my students and coworkers and this great profession.
